“If you’re tired of trying to decipher truth from untruth and accuracy from inaccuracy, it is because there is a near-constant effort to make you believe things that are false. And far more likely than not, the falsehoods are designed to make you think ill of people who aren’t in “your” group, and instead are in another “people category” perceived to be in conflict with yours. As a consequence, we are all exhausted.”
This powerful quote from chapter seven of our upcoming book, American Awakening, Eight Principles to Restore the Soul of America, points to an underlying reality right now for all of us. Yet deep down, even the most cynical and divided among us know, because it was planted there by our Creator, that we are designed to be together. We are not created to be divided and tribal. That is the result of the fall.
Yes, on this side of heaven, it may be unlikely that we will see full unity. But we are called into the work of the Kingdom of God – bringing it to Earth as it is in Heaven. So we reject the division and the near-constant push to segregate us. We lean into our unity found in God our Creator.
This weekend, rest from social media and news. Instead, find ways to unite in relationship with someone not like you. In so doing, you are participating in the Kingdom of God.
