“Let them give thanks to the Lord for His faithful love and His wondrous works for all humanity.” -Psalm 107:8
God’s unfailing love has sustained me time and time again. He has given me all I really need at every turn and blessed me way beyond what I deserve. But I confess, I don’t feel this way a lot of the time. I forget.
I need to be reminded of this. When I wake and when I lie down. When I am coming and when I am going. When I forget, I not only lose focus on what matters but I find that I’m not very good for anyone. I’m meditating on the negative – the failures – the ways God hasn’t been there for me as I see it. And yet the truth is, He’s never left me.
To be sure, He allows me to go through some tough things. Sometimes of my own making, sometimes not. There is, in the mysterious tension of his sovereignty and our free will, a whole bunch of stuff that is difficult for us. But fixating on it never solves it and usually makes it worse.
Instead, what if today we stopped to give thanks for all the ways we have seen God come through, right down to the simplest things? Where’s that list of then things? Stop right now and make a list of 10 things for which you are thankful. Why stop there? Keep going as long as the things come to mind. Let thankfulness lead today.
Grace and Peace,
